Dating apps have become one of the most prominent and contentious topics in the realm of intimacy among the wider public and academia. Media and communication researchers have examined their uptake across cultural contexts, seeking to address the dynamics between dating apps and social processes. With the knowledge accumulated in this research field, we assemble a comprehensive account of interactions through dating apps. These sections together present dating apps as a technological consequence of various social forces that mediate users’ daily practices and social relationships.

How do couples meet and fall in love in the 21st century? It is a question that sociologist Dr Marie Bergström has spent a long time pondering. “Online dating is changing the way we think about love,” she says. “One idea that has been really strong in the past – certainly in Hollywood movies – is that love is something you can bump into, unexpectedly, during a random encounter.” Another strong narrative is the idea that “love is blind, that a princess can fall in love with a peasant and love can cross social boundaries. But that is seriously challenged when you’re online dating, because it’s so obvious to everyone that you have search criteria. You’re not bumping into love – you’re searching for it.”

Falling in love today tracks a different trajectory. “There is a third narrative about love – this idea that there’s someone out there for you, someone made for you, a soulmate,” says Bergström. “And you just need to find that person.” That idea is very compatible with online dating. “It pushes you to be proactive – to go and search for this person. You shouldn’t just sit at home and wait for this person.”

As a result, the way we think about love – the way we depict it in films and books, the way we imagine that love works – is changing. “There is much more focus on the idea of a soulmate. And other ideas of love are fading away,” says Bergström.

This is where Findate comes in.

Findate is a new dating app whose focus is bringing individuals who do not only seek to find long lasting love but also people with similar interests together.

Wonderful….right?

The journey of this amazing platform began a week ago as the idea was birthed.

The Start-up 2 team of the SideHustle 6.0 consist of nine tracks. These tracks worked together to give rise to this product and are still doing so to make it a tremendous change and a new dawn to the existence of dating apps.

They include; Product Management Product Design (UI/UX) Data Analytics Customer Relation Management Digital Marketers & Content Creation Graphic Design Cloud Computing Frontend & Backened and Mobile Developers Video Animation

These wonderful tracks are the brains behind the product 'FINDATE'.

Each track have made immense contributions from their individual tasks to the general task to make it a success.

These are the run downs;

The product manangement track worked with the CRM and were tasked with;

  1. Carryout user research on the product
  2. Create user persona
  3. User flowuser persona
  4. PRD template

A research was conducted and sent to the data analytic track who analyzed the data. The CRM used the data to understand the customers and target audience.

PRD templates and user persona were created as work on user flow and FAQ were made.

The Product Design (PD) team was saddled with the responsibility of coming up with the following:

  1. A landing page for a dating app
  2. Conduct a user research
  3. A design system i.e. a style guide

The user research was done in conjunction with the product management team. 30 users answered research questions which were analysed. Following the analysis, one pain point stood out - users wanted a dating app that had the option of matching them with persons in close proximity to them. This feedback was taken and implemented in the landing page of our product under the section tagged “Need a Date Closeby?”

The style guide incorporated the following components like typography, icons, colours, buttons, alerts, input fields, badges, grid system and spacers.

The landing page, having incorporated the above, encourages users to begin to find a match by making the “Find a Match” section the most noticeable on the page.

The Digital Marketing and Content Creation were tasked with the following; Creating social media handles for the product

  1. Create a content strategy
  2. Create a content calendar for the product.
  3. Come up with the goal, objective, mission and vision statement
  4. Content for the product's landing page

An extensive research was carried out with the product management team, a user persona was created and then a content strategy and calender was made. This track also took care of the product's goal, objective, mission and vision statements by implementing the results of the data collected from the result as well as putting in consideration the interests of the target audience.

The Graphics Design team was given the responsibility of achieving the following:

  1. A Logo for the product
  2. A team flier.

After subsequent deliberations with the product design and the product design team, a logo that describes the objectives of the product was deliberate on and after multiple corrections, a decision was made. The members of the boot camp submitted their portrait which allowed us to come up with a design flier. The flier was also done incorporating the colors for consistency.

The Cloud and Computing track were tasked with; Web App Deployment on Azure Web App.

Azure Web Apps is a cloud computing-based platform for hosting websites. It is a platform as a service which allows publishing Web apps running on multiple frameworks and written in different programming languages.

To deploy a web app on Azure web app, these are steps we took:

A new resource group named Findate_Project was created and deployed in the (Africa) South Africa North region to reduce latency for customers. A resource group is a container that holds related resources for an Azure solution.

A webapp on Azure portal was created by clicking on App services on the Azure homepage.

For this project, the Azure cli was used to deploy our app. The app code was stored in a repo on GitHub. And authenticated Azure CLI to push and pull from our GitHub account.

The deployed webapp was accessed with the url: findate-app.azurewebsites.net.

Finally, test for functionality and performance was carried out by stopping our server. As expected, it was not accessed.

The developers team was given the responsibility of ensuring smooth work process by handling the following. • Creation of GitHub, PostMan and Heroku accounts.

Findate as a company now have the listed accounts for easy access and collaboration within the developers working together( frontend, backend and mobile developers).

Findate is presently on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Linkedin so anyone can contact, connect and follow the product for exclusive and ostentacious services.

Findate is focused on changing the narratives of dating apps, filling gaps and setting up avenues for a better person to person connection.

When you think long lasting dates, you think Findate.
